Barnhart, Debra Marie

"Quiet Rock Cove"
Medium: Oil, Printmaking
I have been painting for more than twenty-five years. After I received an Masters in Fine Arts from Montclair State University in 1999, I began experimenting in printmaking as well. I exhibit my paintings and prints regularly in the Atlanta area. My artistic interests always lie in observations of the natural world filtered through my thoughts and moods. I feel my job as an artist is to reflect my perceptions back to the viewer so that we might enter into a dialogue. While my work, either in painting or printmaking, is realistic, I am not attracted to depictions of reality that are devoid of emotion. More often than not, I work from memory, ideas and things I have observed.

Barr, Joel

"Purple River"
Medium: Oil Painting; Mixed Media; Sculpture
Joel is an oil painter and sculptor who works on the surreal, abstract and narrative side of things.  A colorist who loves to work with deep, rich hues, he is always searching for the new in shape, motion, and especially, content.

His current work incorporates involved textures which contribute directly to the mood, world, or story in the piece at hand.  By creating provocative and involved backgrounds, he can search for the secrets they hold.   There is always a spiritual element in what he does.  His work may be seen in representing galleries as well as in his Chamblee studio.

Biven, Jane

"Misty Blue"
Mixed Media 12x24"
Medium:  Mixed media, Acrylic
Jane is a contemporary abstract artist and Atlanta native she has developed her own unique style, Alternative Abstraction, a mixed media process which combines inks and acrylics with epoxy resin. She enjoys discovering new techniques, experimenting with various utensils and unusual materials, that allow her to produce interesting textures. Her strong use of color results in bold, vivacious abstracts full of warmth and passion.

Music is her sole (soul) inspiration. she always paints to music. Her paintings are visual expressions of the emotion evoked by music. She says " I translate the audible to visual... it's like I paint what I hear...Lyric and melody become color and form as I construct a painting the same way a songwriter composes a song. The more inspiring the music, the more passionate the painting as positive energy flows through me onto my canvas." Jane's work can by seen at Synergy Fine Art in Roswell and other select locations.

Blalock, Clara Dodd

Medium: Oil and Acrylic on Paper and Canvas
Clara Blalock is a native Atlantan. She received an associate degree from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia and a BFA degree from the Atlanta College of Art, with a major in painting and a minor in printmaking.

“Art school experience in the mid 1960’s and the New York abstract expressionist painters of that era have had a great influence on my work over the years. Most of my work is abstract. I work on large canvas, use broad brushes and get my whole self into the painting. I’m in constant motion as I work all over the surface to create a unified whole. When working on a piece I don’t allow rules to get in the way. I know the basic principles, which gives me the freedom to paint, without thinking too much. I’m able to put more of myself into the piece, to let the brush be an extension of who I am, what I’m feeling at the time, and to say what I want to say with paint and marks. Most of all I want my voice to come through in the finished piece.

Cambias, Timothy, Jr.

"Clown Trees"
Medium: Oil & Marker
Although he grew up in Atlanta, GA, most of Tim's influences seem to have come from the magical city of New Orleans. Tim's father is from New Orleans which means the spicy culture was introduced to Tim at an early age. Upon reaching post secondary decisions, Tim was drawn to Loyola University in New Orleans.  This proved to be a sort of homecoming for Tim. Here he was not only immersed in the ways of southern Louisiana, but his religious roots were nurtured as well. Tim's love for all things NOLA are exemplified in his paintings.  Food, music, dance, and spirituality all play important roles in Tim's creations.  One major influence is the Tree of Life. Tim has an affinity for painting trees which was sparked by his work in college with the Louisiana landmark. This massive oak tree along with time spent in silence at a weekend retreat moved him to produce his first tree paintings. Tim has managed to merge the color and mysticism of his favorite city to produce vibrant landscapes and stills as if seen through a kaleidoscope.

Carr, Elizabeth

"Oh, Say Can You Ski"
GWS, WSA
Medium: watercolor, collage
Elizabeth has been painting for more than 3 decades, studying under some of the world’s most renowned watercolorists, like Frank Webb, Barbara Nechis and John Salminen, to name a few. She has been the recipient of several awards over those years, including the coveted Winsor & Newton Award in the American Watercolor Society International Exhibit and earning Signature Member status in both the Georgia Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of Alabama. More recently she has expanded her repertoire to include works in mixed media and collage.

She also spends much of her time teaching others what she has learned. "Teaching watercolor is one of my favorite things to do. Sharing my love of watercolor with others keeps me inspired and full of wonder at it‘s marvelously creative qualities. No other medium can come close to matching watercolor’s ability to do so much of the work for us and do it better than we ever could. I will always be a student of watercolor—there’s always something new to learn or try—so many ways to apprehend, interpret, and respond to the world."

Cook, Deb

Medium: Pastels
Art is a natural outlet for me. I am intrigued by the common, every day occurrence in life. Capturing the moods and feelings in my daily life and the unusual experiences from my travels is a delightful challenge. Nature and the quirkiest aspects of life are always an inspiration. Whether it's finding something to paint that reminds me of a childhood memory, something cherished or something of beauty always brings joy to me.

Craven, Matthew

Medium: Ceramic Sculpture, Abstract Painting

Artist's Statement

I have always felt that I have an innate sense of design. Architecture, both man-made and that found in nature, often inspires me and structures found in nature, and much of my work reflects its ebb and flow. To me art is not the product of work or time, but an irrepressible idea or emotion that drives artists to create.

Denis, Courtney

Medium: Acrylic, Oil, Mixed Media

I received my BA in Art with a Fine Art Studio concentration, emphasis in painting from Georgia College and State University. In 2010 I studied in Italy through Syracuse University Florence, there I discovered my talent for photomontage and found text. In 2013 I joined the artist group at The Tree House of Sis and Moon in Alpharetta. I am currently a guest artist at Synergy Fine Art Gallery in Roswell Georgia.

My current body of work is process focused. I am interested in the illusion of depth using color. My process begins with a planned color palette but a spontaneous first layer of paint application. After the first layer dries I then investigate how I can push or pull the color in order to give depth. I let the colors be in charge of the creation of space and minimize tangible depth of the paint thickness.

Edwards, Sally

Mediums: All, but primarily oil and acrylic
Sally’s nest series, large and small renditions entitled "Petit a Petit", inspired by the birth of her first grandchild, has been deeply rewarding to her as an artist. A most recent series, "Both Sides Now", was created for a two month showing at Salon Next in Atlanta. Inspiration for these oil and encaustic works has emerged from an affinity with sea and sky. For Sally, the language of clouds is seductive and mesmerizing, offering their fluid and vast sky-scapes to the imagination of young and old alike. Seeing them through the eyes of her now five grandchildren has made painting this series pure delight.

Sally’s work reflects a response to both an inner and outer journey, with the intent to continue finding joy and satisfaction in the process as well as the final product. She hopes to bring pleasure and offer insight to the artistic heart and soul of anyone who views her work. Sally’s has shown her work at Huff Harrington Gallery and Huff Harrington Homes in Atlanta, and is currently carried by the Raiford Gallery in Roswell, The Burton Gallery in Clarkesville, Georgia, and John Colletti Fine Art in Cashiers, North Carolina.

Eubanks, Jan

"Cougar Island,
Kiawah, SC"
Medium: Oil
Jan Eubanks, to her great joy, believes the essence of painting is very liberating. Jan uses an "Impressionistic Alla Prima" style of painting to convey her ideas through landscapes and floral in both plein air and studio painting. Her motivation in painting is to react to the beauty of this world and create a lasting memory of the moment. Her visceral landscapes are often based on wonder and imagination, and Jan’s stylistic approach is often compared to reflections of a dreamlike reality. She feels the painting should speak to the heart and the soul through passion, color, and the handling of paint. Growing up with frequent trips to The Art Institute in Chicago and numerous classes, gave her a strong desire to create fine art. The decision to study art at the University of Georgia was an exciting step in her growth as a painter.

Statement: I want my painting to be visually exciting and poetic. My Painting style Lands somewhere between realism and expressive contemporary, where sincerity is honored but still challenges the viewer.

Gold, Debra Lynn

"Tumbling Triangles"
Medium: Aluminum and Silver Jewelry
I have always been a builder - paying close attention to the way parts combine to create a whole. I was aTinker Toys child. Today sawing, filing, forging, and soldering still create the direct hands on connection to my materials that makes the most sense to me and charts my designs. Combinations of sterling silver and aluminum require that I invent ways to join the metals without the use of solder. These cold connections offer new ways of defining relationships and lend possibilities of movement within the work. I place playful elements within a formal, engineered, spatial structure. The playfulness comes as parts rotate, interlock, slide, spin, flex, and flip.

Space is the most important design element in my work. I want my work to be dynamic and commanding of its own space. It should also redefine space when it’s being worn. I enjoy the duality of a piece of jewelry – that it’s one thing by itself and another when combined with the human form. I believe that jewelry should be as dynamic as the human form on which it’s worn.

She is currently working on two bodies of work; one about the biological relationship to visual interpretation, and one simply about colors and shapes.

Holzhauer, Amy

Farm Scene 3
Medium: Acrylic, Bead
My artwork is greatly influenced by Kandinsky, Miro, and Gustav Klimt and also with strong references to Chinese folk art. I paint on all types of surfaces from canvas to old wine bottles to sticks, clay or almost any found object. My paintings are bright and happy with lots of color and dynamic shapes.

As a young girl growing up in Hong Kong I dreamed of coming to the United States. With a full scholarship to the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and money I saved from working at American Express Travel Division, I was able to fulfill my dream of coming to America. I create my art with the same curiosity and energy. After a successful career in illustration and graphic design for over 30 years I retired in 2008. Today I paint primarily with acrylic. Some of my newer paintings are composed entirely of glass beads applied over an acrylic support that give the paintings a luminous quality and also a textural look.

Holzhauer, Greg

"Junkyard Chevy"
Medium: Watercolor
As a professional architectural illustrator for over thirty years, I feel I've mastered the technical aspects of my drawings and paintings. What's left, of course, is artistic exploration. I'm fascinated with the boom and bust cycle of the urban scene. I try to capture the romance of old neighborhoods and once placid rural areas before they are changed forever. I don't doubt that this is due to the rapidly growing cities I've lived in and visited over the years: Atlanta, Hong Kong, Vancouver, San Francisco and many others.

I believe that my works are a result of my process. I spend a lot of time planning and sketching before the final execution. I use a variety of media: watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and oil, whichever I feel will fit the mood of the piece. Ultimately I paint because I love the journey each of my paintings takes me on, and no matter where I start, I'm always surprised at where I end.

Regina Imbsweiler is a jewelry artist and goldsmith from Germany who has lived and worked in Atlanta since 1991. Her work combines sterling silver, 22k gold and gemstones in modern classical designs which incorporate graphic elements and playful flows. Her favorite stones include large luminescent aquamarines and tourmalines in a rich spectrum of greens and pinks. She also exhibited at numerous art festivals in the Atlanta area, among others the Dogwood Festival, the Virginia Highlands Arts Festival and the Atlanta Arts Festival, but has now retired from the "show circuit." Jaskevich, Jane

"Configuration"
Stone Sculpture
Medium: Sculpture
A reviewer once wrote "Jaskevich is a carver of dreams in stone. Her mythical figures borrow elements from ancient cultures." I create figures by combining various materials such as different stones, wood and found objects. I love the mystical side of nature and like to reveal that in my art. A raw stone can suggest a face or a tool mark can reveal the process. They become gestural elements of the sculpture. Adding a white head on a black body creates new reality. I like to create the unexpected.

By incorporating images from the Greco/Roman period, I pay homage to the stone’s roots. To make the sculptures more contemporary, I add found objects or simplify a form. My sculptures suggest multiple ideas; ancient ruin, contemporary dreams, and flat vs 3D.

Jaugstetter, Deanna

"Winged Friends"
Medium: Water media, oil, acrylic
I am a Georgia artist, who works in water media, oil, and acrylic on paper or canvas. Associations I enjoy include membership in Women Painters of the SE, Oil Painters of America, Georgia Watercolor Society, and Contemporary Fine Arts International. Represented by Marguerites On Dresden, Atlanta, Ga., I also participate in regional gallery exhibits throughout the Southeastern United States.

I consider myself a colorist primarily. My ability to see patterns of color in the landscape with clarity help me to create the same hues on my palette. The limitless array of colors and textures that God has created in nature is my true inspiration. I hope my works engage the viewer and that my paintings enhance their ability to see the world with greater discovery and appreciation.

Johnson, Bruce

Medium: Multi-media and Lenticular
The struggle between traditional art and the digital world seems to be a pretty common theme, for Bruce it reflects somewhat of a personal struggle between the career that pays or a passion that doesn’t. He was brought up by a classically trained artist and an IBM executive, so he is completely creatively schizophrenic. His work balances between "a Luddite side" which focuses on raw, analog creativity using encaustic with a variety of material and a "digital side" which focuses on lenticular work. In describing his work, Bruce lives by Jasper John’s motto, "Do something, then do something to it and then do something to that."

Bruce’s lenticular work is sold in galleries in New Orleans and Seattle. He photographs layered, abstract, manipulated, figurative photo-montage and print the result as lenticulars. His encaustic multi-media work is hanging in public venues, currently in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Johnson, Helene

Medium: Oil Painting
Helene Johnson has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She taught art for many years, at all grade levels. Her proudest creative accomplishments are her four adult children, who are artists in their own right.

Helene didn’t recommit to creating art fulltime until later in life, so she still considers herself an “emerging” artist at age 80.  She works primarily in oil, but also uses pastels, watercolor and anything at hand. Most recently she has created a series of evocative paintings related to her childhood, referring to old family photos; also ocean life has become a passion, after several visits to the aquarium. Her style could be described as “expressionistic”.

Johnson, Nancy

"Leo is Done"
Medium: Clay Sculpture
Nancy Johnson has a passion for art. After graduating from Berry College with a major in art, it was her minor in psychology that had her working with special needs adults for 18 years but art was always a tool to help her clients and herself with dealing with stress and self expression. Exploring various art mediums, Nancy has narrowed down her current pursuits to working with clay and photography.

Every experience adds to the richness of her artistic expression. Whether she is creating her organically inspired creations, like her mushroom forms, or her figures of people and animals, Nancy Johnson is always playing with the textures and designs.

Nancy Johnson’s work has appeared in the Atlanta Artist Center Gallery where she had won first and second prizes in her sculptural work and honorable mentions in both photography and mixed medium sculpture. Her sculpture has been exhibited in many art venues such as AAC, Chastain Art Center, Castleberry Hill, NWUU and she is the current photographer for Chastain Art Center, Hungry Ear Coffee House, and Essential Theatre. Currently, you can find Nancy’s work on display at Chastain or see samples of her work on line.

Labaire, Anne Lindsay

"Inspiration"
Medium: Acrylic, mixed media
Anne Labaire was an artist from the moment that first Crayola was put in her hand. As an adult, Anne and her husband Ron were professional studio potters whose work was sold in galleries throughout the United States. Their work is in private collections worldwide as well as in The Smithsonian collection.

Lillie, Don

Medium: Glassblower

Don Lillie Began Glassblowing as an apprentice at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  He came to Georgia Tech in 1955, received a degree in physics and remained with the institute as master glassblower for 30 years. Lillie Glassblowers, formed in 1955, were the first  professional lamp workers in the state of Georgia and are now the most prominent and renowned venture in the southeast. It is the only company in the world that creates both artistic sculptures and scientific apparatus. This unique combination of talent and expertise results in unusual and exciting creations.

Each piece is individually hand fashioned using specially designed torches and once the glass is molten, the resultant creation is only limited by the experience, imagination, and dexterity of the glassblower.

Internal objects, captive figures and impressionistic silhouettes united with such traditional sculptures as crystal peaches and dogwoods provide a infinite and imaginative selection for the collector and connoisseur.

Lillie, Thom

"Mobile Fish"
Medium: Glassblower
Thom studied industrial design at Georgia Institute of Technology. After realizing his heart was truly in glassblowing, his father suggested a year of glass technology studies from Salem Technical Institute in Salem, New Jersey. Thom headed north to Minneapolis where he found his own artistic identity. The next five years constituted the most evolutionary period in Thom’s career in terms of form, ideas and design.

In 1986, Thom rejoined the Lillie Group to share the modern and sophisticated approaches he found in Midwestern Art. Thom has the unique ability to conceive an idea, sketch it for symmetry and technique, and finally transform it into a tangible crystal sculpture. Many of Thom’s sculptures reflect his personality and interest. Some of his more recent designs have never been attempted before and they represent challenges and developmental procedures in rare and unfamiliar areas; truly a modern day explorer in the uncharted sea of crystal design.

Meacham, Kim Roberts

Medium: Acrylic, Mixed Media
I began painting in 2003 and follow the Ehecatl Art process to create my paintings. Ehecatl Art was developed by Vision Bear and is an organic, cooperative process based on balance and integration. Ehecatl is a Nahuatl word that means Spirit, or that which moves but cannot be seen.”

Painting following the Ehecatl Art process deepens and extends my meditation practice as part of a holistic approach to life and living. As I paint, I develop my personal balance, deepen my understanding, strengthen my communication, and learn to allow life to unfold. My paintings honor our relationships with the seen and unseen and celebrate the communities where we live and grow while serving others.

Moore, Lisa

"Cotton"
Medium: Oil and Wax
Lisa Upchurch Moore was born and raised in Northwest Georgia. Surrounded by artists, educators and free thinkers, Lisa was taught how to look at the world in a way that enabled her to appreciate the beauty and wonder that surrounds all of us. In short, her personal and work life passionately led her to a career as a professional artist.

Currently Lisa’s creative progression is influenced by the emotions of everyday life. Lisa creates paintings that evoke a sense of the familiar. Rhodes, Ann

"Poppies Boiling Over"
Medium: Oil
A native of Alabama, I settled in Atlanta after studying painting at Queens College and earned a Master of Arts degree in Art History. I have taught at the Atlanta College of Art, Georgia Perimeter College, Georgia State University, and privately at my studio in the Tula Art Center.

Celebratory landscape is the focus of my work. I am fed by nature’s light and color and comforted by its underlying geometry. Response to the intensity of nature’s force informs my painting in which loose brushwork and overlapping layers of color express the complexity of the universe. A favorite theme is “waves of earth” as described by the great French writer Jean Giono.

Richards, Sherri

Medium: oil and acrylics
Drawing on the walls behind the furniture in her house was Sherri Richards first big art project.  She was rewarded with classes at The Toledo Museum of Art. Sherri became an artist with a bachelor’s of fine art degree from Georgia State University. She is still developing her craft with fine artist Gary Weiss.

Sherri loves the gesture of impressionism, the drama of baroque, and the flowing brushstrokes of romanticism. Being the fine artist that she is she sometimes can’t resist the urge to paint a horse, a bird, or a butterfly and not stick to a specific theme, but her new work is becoming more figurative and less eclectic. To her friends and family she is a storyteller and there will always be a narrative whether literal or left to the viewer’s imagination. Sherri has been in several art festivals across Georgia and has displayed her work in many venues in Dunwoody and Roswell. She currently has a studio in the Art District of Roswell, Ga.

Rush, Barbara

"The Tao of Curiosity"
Medium: Acrylic
Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Ms. Rush holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from Old Dominion University (VA) and a Master’s in Advertising (Design) from Syracuse University (NY). After 20 years as a graphic designer, her art is heavily influenced by lines, grids, and shapes. Her love of finding shapes and forms within her subject matter is easily discernible within every painting she creates.

As a very colorful and structured acrylic artist. Her work has been influenced by cubists such as Picasso, Braque, and Delaunay, but her style is uniquely her own. She creates elegant outlines of horses, florals, birds, and trees, then fills them with heavily gridded shapes, or curves and swirls, that in the same moment break apart and yet hold the subject matter together. Life is molded from lines, capturing the essence of its energy on the canvas.

All in all, Ms. Rush’s unique way of connecting with her subject matter, combined with her unique style and analytical analysis of interlocking shapes, makes her paintings resonate with vitality and significance in the art world.

Savage, Marsha Hamby

"Protecting The Crop"
Medium: Pastel, Oil & Acrylic
Paintings are created plein air and in the studio ... in oil, pastel or acrylic. My philosophy and favorite saying is "It's the journey, not the destination!"

When working on a painting, the joy of using pastel or oil paint inspires me as much as the view before me. My paintings are scenes I have painted many times from different perspectives and times of day. They involve places I have painted plein air and then again in the studio. I am drawn to the mystery in each of these settings. Who walked those dunes, planted those flowers, built those scarecrows, and who else enjoyed that beauty? I imagine stories when I view a scene I am painting.

I am represented by Frameworks Gallery, Marietta, GA and Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Assoc., Blue Ridge, GA. My work has been accepted into prestigious juried shows and won a number of awards. I belong to the Atlanta Artist Center, Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (Signature member), Southeastern Pastel Society (Member of Excellence), Women Painters of the Southeast, International Plein Air Painters, American Impressionist Society, and the Outdoor Painters.

Selgrath, Trisha

Medium: Watercolor, Oil
A born artist, Trisha was giving art lessons to the neighborhood kids at 8-years-old while living in Tennessee. She moved around a lot and was inspired by many beautiful places. Earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas, she first made a living in commercial art and then decorative art, selling over 50,000 prints around the world. Now, she is building a fine art collection of mainly landscapes from her travels which have been unveiled to the public this year including exhibitions in two museums.

"I express emotions through landscape portraiture. The places are real and the title defines how it made me feel. Landscapes can awaken sensations of struggle, hope, triumph, sacrifice, joy, and so much more, yet, we rarely take the time to give meaning to the rush of emotion we feel upon discovering amazing vistas. By combining my love of nature with artistic expression, I share my life through landscapes."

Vision Bear

Medium: Acrylic, Mixed Media
Vision Bear is a self-taught artist, teacher, and Tepatiani (visionary healer), who has been painting for more than fifty years. He is inspired to create images that contemporize the traditional glyphs of his ancestors, the Mexicatl and Mayan, and that honor the struggles of all Native Americans. Vision Bear’s work also embraces our transcendent nature by expressing the universal spiritual language of all people, which bypasses the barriers of individual language and culture. Based on his ancestral belief that the images we create form the basis of our existence, Vision Bear believes that art has the potential to heal, illuminate and transform lives. Meditating on the story of Tonatzin (Earth Mother – Our Lady of Guadalupe), he was inspired to develop the Ehecatl Art process – Ehecatl meaning spirit or that which moves. In following the Ehecatl Art process, painting is experienced as a source of insight and personal transformation.

Born and raised in California, Vision Bear fulfills a dream quest through the Ehecatl Art process, with Spirit and his ancestral gifts to teach others how to transform their lives through art. His original art can be found in private collections across North America. He presently works and teaches the Ehecatl Art process at his studio in Marietta, Georgia.
